Summertime vibes

Calm and tranquillity

I arrived at the campsite this morning with the bread from the local boulangerie. It certainly assaults the senses - the car bursting with the aroma of freshly baked produce. A great start to any day. I got out of the car and the silence and the peacefulness was staggering. Just the birds singing. We are so lucky to have this place and its incredible atmosphere of calm and peace even when it’s busy and, to be able to share it.

Flaming June certainly lived up to expectations, the weather was glorious and luckily for us we avoided the horrible heat wave the rest of Europe seems to be having.

We have taken advantage of some of the cheap ferry prices to visit family at home. Which has been a welcome break, now we know that we won’t be able to get much time off until September.

I have noticed that the cheaper flights to the UK are being resurrected. They all but disappeared with covid. You can now fly from Brest to Gatwick and Manchester to Rennes. All within easy reach of this area.

Our lovely seasonal staff have started work and will be with us until the end of August, which is a great help and takes some of the day-to-day pressure off. They are brilliant and manage to whip me into some sense of organization and calm me down when I have made mistakes with bookings.

Someone asked me the other day if they could come 2 days early which wasn’t a problem. He then said which pitch have you allocated? Sadly I have no idea as that’s always done the morning of arrival. Me walking round with a piece of paper sweating that we will get everyone on. Maybe there is an app that can do this but maybe this old dog can’t change her spots and it adds to the excitement of the day !

The last big job has been completed for the start of Wimbledon. The tennis courts are ready to play! It’s free to use and there is no booking system, so just go down. We have racquets and balls in the office if you need them. We also have sets of boules, a croquet set, cards and dominoes. There is a small library in the office with a variety of books for campers to take and enjoy in different languages. On the beach there is also table tennis and I can provide bats and balls too. One of my friends has painted some rocks to sell in the shop. They are beautiful mini works of art. I hope that you will enjoy them as a souvenir of your stay here.

The garden is looking lovely at the moment and is full of colour for you to enjoy. Eleven years ago when we started camping it was just a bare patch of ground, so I am quite pleased with how it has progressed as the ground isn’t very good. I am not a gardener but love plants and visits to the garden Centre. Sometimes they grow and sometimes they don’t. I have been nurturing a hydrangea hedge for years, but they have never really grown much. My learned gardener friend says they clearly aren’t happy there. Mind you, this year they are a beautiful iridescent blue even if the blooms are on the small side.

So, as we are heading into the main season, I would advise booking your spot as we are often very busy. Please be patient with me if I get it wrong. I will usually manage to rectify any mistakes.I will bring your daily bread and cook your burgers each day and most of all we will have fun and enjoy relaxing at this special place.
