Changeable weather

The cool of the pool

It's incredible how things can change in 4 weeks... There I was ensuring glampers and campers were warm enough with extra blankets and hot water bottles and the next minute I am ordering air conditioners and fans after the heat wave we have just endured!

Campers are a hardy breed and manage well, whatever the weather, and we have the advantage of our lovely shade-giving trees and the cooling lake.

The Dr Seuss line from Horton Hears a Hoo always makes me think of our lake:

On the 15th May in the jungle of Nool

In the heat of the day in the cool of the pool

He was splashing, enjoying the jungle's great joys

When Horton the elephant heard a small noise.

We have so many little noises here, if people are still enough to hear them. Crickets, bumble bees, frogs, field mice, many many birds and small animals going about their business in the area, as well as deer crossing the campsite in the early morning to get to the lake.

But you have to be still and in tune and wanting to listen.

Today we have been fortunate to have a cloudy day with a slight drizzle certainly freshening us up and providing moisture to our grass, garden and of course the magnificent trees that provide the air we breathe, take away our carbon dioxide and provide tranquillity.

In these hostile days people seem to be turning more to nature leaving our world of instant, terrible news, warfare, the pressure to be perfect and achieve endless goals just to keep up. To not sound too soft and woolly, nature and tranquility is a great healer.

This year, more than ever, people have commented to me that there aren’t many campsites like ours left. A small simple campsite. A place not over run by mobile homes that is for campers, caravaners and people with vans. This is what we dreamed of in the beginning and is the fruits of our labour over the last 12 years. We still love being custodians here and never regret for a minute our decision to have a go at something different. It's hard work but on the whole is rewarding and we meet some amazing people over the season.

As the main event is upon us you will see us rushing about, occasionally flustered. We get things wrong sometimes and make mistakes but we always want you to have a great time here, recharge your batteries and catch up with nature.

We hope to see you soon.
