Comings and goings

The story of May 2023

What started as a cold and disappointing May weatherwise ended on a high with a beautiful sunny Pentecost holiday.

It saw the opening night of the snack shack this season which was lovely after we had repainted all the interior, bought a new frier that will do more chips at a time and doesn’t blow the electrics up!

I also found a great little hand wash basin that just fits and dispenses water and soap, so I am very pleased with it.

Andrew and I both have had a week each in the UK welcoming grandchild number 3 - a beautiful baby girl, Lily Belinda. I am thrilled to say the least.

Whilst there, I managed to go to a friend’s 60th, ride Tizzy and spend a lovely day at Chatsworth horse trials where I saw most people I knew. Isn’t it amazing that even in the huge crowds you manage to see friends. Most of my time was taken up with grandchildren and family. This was after all what the trip was about.

When I got back to France as I was docking in Roscoff on The Armorique, Andrew was leaving on The Pont Aven. We were ships that passed in the morning. A woman on deck asked me why I was waving furiously at the larger ferry. I said that’s my husband UK bound to meet his granddaughter for the first time.

I had a busy 10 days without him, luckily aided by Wendy who was on work experience from the local school and Helen who is joining us in July for a couple of months.

We survived, bought all the flowers for the summer displays, and even managed to mow the place courtesy of Ludo from the restaurant. Sssh, don’t tell Andrew it wasn’t me.

Andrew got a lift back to France with his brother so we had a good week with them, we went on a fabulous walk in Huelgoat, had barbeques and generally a nice time. It's always good to get visitors from home.

We have had lots of projects on the go this month, one being the caravan. If you remember, last year, we were renovating a vintage caravan to be a gorgeous holiday hideout for a couple. I think I said something like it will be ready in a few weeks. Well, a year later and I am still saying it. This time though I mean it.

My friend Sarah has been the driving force behind the renovation. We had problems with the ceiling and had tried wallpaper which didn’t work as it all fell off!!

We stood scratching our heads and I suddenly thought let’s upholster it, which we did, and it looks amazing.

So, watch this space it won’t be long before its available.

The campsite is getting busy again now. The weather is beautiful, it seems that people are making the most of it and enjoying being by the lake, in the lovely fresh water.

Next weekend it’s the triathlon, the campsite is full Saturday night. Then on Sunday these athletes will be competing in 30-degree heat. Not for the faint hearted…….
