The season commences

Everyone lends a hand getting ready.

I hope that you all had a lovely Easter with lots of family fun and chocolate. Here at Camping le Drennec we opened our gates for the first time in 2023. Good Friday was a crazy day getting all of the last-minute cleaning done. Planting a few spring plants for a bit of colour as nature slowly wakes up.

Everything has been given a fresh coat of paint and the new electric hook ups are installed and working.

More importantly the coffee machine still works so we will always have coffee in the mornings to go with the fresh bread and croissants that I fetch daily from the local bakers.

We have had a few customers on site and in the glamping tents and Love Shack, so it has been pleasing. The weather for the main event was lovely with 3 days of sunshine and warmer temperatures. It makes you feel so much better the spring sunshine. The woodpeckers are working hard, you can hear them tapping away in the trees. I have also noticed that one of our bird boxes is being explored by a blue tit.

We are now waiting for the swallows returning. Andrew has built them a shelf this year under their nest. One reason for this is that if the babies drop out when they are fledging they will have a chance. The other reason is that the washing up area stays clean and not covered in bird poo. Last year we had such a show with the couple managing to rear and fledge all 5 chicks to the delight of the campers. I do hope they come back.

Whilst we did manage to get everything ship shape and ready to open we still have lots of jobs left to do before the May bank holidays are upon us.

In the next couple of weeks we will erect the rest of the glamping tents and get them ready, rake the leaves in the petite forêt, clean and get the snack shack ready to roll, and fill in all the big trenches from the electrical work. Then finish and install the new Hideaway. So, we haven’t got time to slack.

We also have the sad news that Digger, the original campsite dog, died just before we opened. He was elderly and had stood his post since we took the campsite over 9 years ago. He loved coming to France, chasing balls, rolling over for tickles and diving in the lake. RIP Digger.

It’s been great to see some regular clients that we meet every year and we can't wait to welcome you all.

See you soon.
