Simple pleasures

The joy of sharing

At last after 7 dry weeks we have had much needed rain. The campsite was very dry and dusty but now the grass is getting greener as we have benefitted from some precipitation. Luckily for us we didn’t get sudden downpours that just flushed off the dry earth causing havoc, more a prolonged period of light rain.

It freshened us up no end. We also have spare pitches on the campsite now and the "full" signs have come down. Glamping is still very busy though. The kids are going back to school, and the first of the fly fishermen have started to arrive, before the season closes.

The fishing here is great and many a trout has been cooked on our barbeques this summer. The lake is emptying now after a long dry spell to keep the taps running in Brest.

Camping is a holiday that is communal and requires mutual respect for each other. You share amenities and it's very much the spirit that you leave things as you would like to find them. Things like toilets, showers and washing up areas. The barbeque space is a place that sparks mutual cooperation, people helping out sharing food and fire. It’s a pleasure to watch people caring about each other. I love the way people share stuff and help each other out. It adds to the joy of running a campsite which for the most part is a pleasure.

We are a simple campsite and people appreciate that it’s an old school site none of your serviced pitches here !

While the world is in turmoil mostly fuelled by power, greed and selfishness there are still simple pleasures to be had and peacefulness to be found.

Looking at the bright stars on a dark night unfettered by bright city lights, listening to the dawn chorus through canvas, and watching the vivacious sunset over the lake making everywhere red, pink and orange. These have got to be the things we appreciate and share with each other.

Sadly, some people just don’t get that joy, are too wrapped up in themselves to share anything. The camping community should teach people how to get along, how to mutually cooperate and just be nice.

The crazy summer has gone now. Just like turning a tap off, We have got a bit of a chance to recuperate before the pack down starts.

In fact we are going to the pub for a while today to enjoy a golden pint and a bag of pork scratching’s, Something we couldn’t have done for the last 7 weeks. Small pleasures………
