Reflections of the season

A chance to take stock

Finally, we have a chance to take stock of the 2025 season, catch our breath, throw a few ideas around for next time and catch up with administration and sleep. Whilst I feel a bit guilty about not working this winter, we do a year's work in a few months and, to be honest, we are still working preparing for next year.

After a cold start the weather was amazing, consequently we were very busy which is great for us and just shows how far we have come since we opened in 2015. We both had to work 2 jobs in France and the UK to make ends meet. Initially the campsite seemed like a hobby, a reason for Andrew to have a sit on mower! It looks like this coming season the mower will need replacing. It's not done bad after 11 years hard labour!

Can the same be said for us though after 11 years? We have had turmoil, tribulations, language difficulties, storms and covid. Both somehow are now over 60 and grandparents. All of these things were unimaginable when we started. But we are still here and looking forward to 2026 at Camping le Drennec.

As the campsite grew in popularity so did the area. It was, in the beginning, a place that holiday makers drove through on their way to different resorts. But over the years it's become a popular destination. With easy access to most attractions, coastline, walking and ferry terminals it has become a place that people make their hub for their holidays.

It has a beautiful lake and the Monts d’Arrée on the doorstep. We had a lot more clients who stayed a week or more. Our glamping accommodation was also very popular - easy camping and a cheap family holiday in our lovely bell tents.

Bookings for next year are rolling in quite early really. I usually expect a flurry over Christmas but plenty of people are planning ahead. Last July and August we turned so many people away who hadn’t booked in advance it was heartbreaking. So it's always worth booking or just drop me an email or message to say you are coming even in low season as sometimes there are local events like the triathalon and ultra trail that mean we are very busy or full.

As for us we are currently in the UK for Christmas and waiting the birth of our new grandchild. Yes! That will be the fourth on its way in February. We don’t know if it’s a boy or girl, but it is currently known as Percy so watch this space.

We have been madly decorating my daughter's house that they will be moving into very soon. Currently we have 5 adults, 3 children and 4 dogs living with us. 3 of the dogs are golden retrievers so poor Bobby has an inferiority complex as he is the only boy and not a retriever.

Andrew decided to do some fundraising for prostate cancer. A good friend died of this a few years ago so it’s a charity close to our hearts. He is walking 60 miles in November, currently he has 17 to go. I am considering the moon walk next year for breast cancer. I have done this once many years ago and it nearly finished me off. Have I still got it in me I ask myself?

This is the question we regularly have, can we still do it, the physical and mental hard work that goes with running a busy campsite. Then we give ourselves a shake, think about all of the wonderful people we have met, all of the fantastic reviews and the very happy times. Of course we still have it in us and are very much looking forward to next season.

I hope that everyone has a good run up to Christmas. I know we have plenty of things on, wreath making, parties, dinners, nativities, Christmas markets oh and a trip to that there London which I am very much looking forward to.

Don’t forget, any questions, bookings etc just drop me an email: campingledrennec@gmail.com

We reopen on April 1st 2026 until at least the end of September depending on how we feel, demand and weather.
