End of the summer...

A glorious end to an eventful summer

We made it to the end of August in baking heat that is just not usual for Brittany. At least today we have had some rain and thunder is rumbling in the distance. Our lovely trees have been very stressed with the drought. They are shedding their leaves giving the whole thing a very autumnal feel.

We have welcomed many people onto the campsite this season from all over Europe and indeed we had some campers from Australia and Mexico. It was great to see the Brits return to France after a couple of years off during the pandemic. We have always had a love affair with France and appreciate the differences, the space, quiet roads and not paying for parking which always amazes people.

The wildlife has proved a hit too, people have reported seeing kingfishers, egrets, otters and we have been host to a family of hedgehogs that have been lovely to watch from a distance.

There was a rumour that a wolf had been rummaging the bins. The family in question kept watch for many nights but never managed to catch a photo. I sent them off to Menez Meur a local animal park that has a pack of 8 wolves. Earlier in the season a wolf was caught on a wildlife camera about 20 km from here so you never know. I have seen red squirrels and wild boar in the past walking in the area. It’s a shame that so many animals have been displaced by the fires.

This weekend we will be celebrating Mr H 60th birthday with a party at the campsite. We have family and friends arriving from the UK and Canada. We are looking forward to a great weekend with a bit of downtime and letting our hair down after a very busy season. Of course, rain is forecast but we will have a great time whatever.

When I re-read these blogs its sounds like I am always wishing the time away. I am not really, I am just looking forward to the next thing which lets face it will be my holiday in October. Did I tell you I am going to lake Como…………..
