When September ends...

September has been quieter than usual

We started with Mr H's 60th birthday party. We closed the campsite for the weekend as we had lots of friends and family staying the night. It was a blast! I even survived the catering which, after the summer we had had, just about finished me off. It was great to see everyone. One friend even came from Canada for the weekend.

We had friends come from the UK too who had never seen the campsite before. From their perspective we just disappear off from March and they can’t really imagine what we are doing. I really enjoyed sharing it with them. Think they need to come for longer next time so I can really show this lovely area off.

There was a Breton band that ended up being joined by various talented friends and having a jamming session. The band enjoyed it as much as we did!

Then of course there was karaoke with all the renditions. Yes, including Teenage Kicks, although the group effort for Bohemian Rhapsody was particularly special.

You're only 60 once so it was well worth the effort.

We spent a lovely week after the party with the twins. Oceanopolis in Brest was a great day out and they absolutely loved it. It’s been a long time since I went there, and I shall recommend it again next season. Can you believe they are 1 now? How time flies. The first time we went there was over 20 years ago when our kids were small. We followed the signs on a particular wet day. When we arrived, it was still a building site, lost in translation again!

We then had an influx of fishermen who come every year and have a lovely week fishing on the lake. Even though the weather did get cold they all seemed content. They all come every year and it was great to see them again.

The English continued to arrive on the way too and from the boat some had arrived before their journey, and I enjoyed listening to their adventures and how great their holidays had been. One couple in a very cool Land Rover conversion had driven off road across the Pyrenees to the Med.

People are starting to book now for next summer. It's so satisfying to see people wanting to back to the campsite and spend their holidays here again. We can’t wait now for next summer to welcome campers; old friends and new people. Running a campsite is about people. That is the best thing about it. Andrew is always telling me that I talk too much but I am a chatter box and do find people very interesting all with a different tale to tell.

As I am writing this, we have closed the campsite for the winter, taking glamping tents down, finding space for everything, finishing the washing and ironing of all the bed linen and storing it all where mice can’t find it. That is the hope.

Mr H built a new shelf for al the tents and very proud of it he was too. That was until we tried to get a bell tent up there and couldn’t. It was too heavy!! Back in the day we would have managed no problem. We await a strong friend to help us.

We are preparing and planning for next year and hope to make some improvements that you will all benefit from.

I am looking forward to some relaxation time now to rejuvenate our energy levels as I do feel a bit sapped of strength. Another time of change from full on 7 days a week and I can tell you it takes a bit of getting used to deciding what to do when we get up in the morning.

The best quote was Mr H on the first morning we didn’t have to get up to go to work. “I was so excited about the lie in I couldn’t get to sleep!”

Typical.
