Preparations begin!
Spring is sprung the grass is riz I wonder where dem boidies is. (Ogden Nash)
Well the birds are definitely singing at the campsite. The Robin is following us around as we complete our taming tasks. The little blue tits are eyeing up the bird houses on the trees and the woodpeckers are knocking their message out in the woods.
The fat pigeons are eating grass seed as fast as I can sow it and the crows are flapping around in groups looking at where to build their nests. Guess what ... They are building them right at the tops of the trees. This is a sign of a good summer ahead (dare I say it).
We arrived after the first glorious week in the UK. I had finished work the week before so ended up with me trying to complete all the jobs that needed doing, in the garden and house. The weather here and there then took a turn for the worst and we arrived in France to minus figures with a sharp wind taking the temperature down even further.
The house was freezing and it’s a bit primitive with no central heating. It’s a question of lighting fires and paraffin heaters to get it warmed up. Oh and don’t forget the electric blanket.
I have special fluffy bed socks for France!!
Mind you, a bit of work and we warm up. I am pleased with what we have achieved in a couple of weeks most of the ground work has been done. Apart from the petite forêt which we always leave till last. We so far have moved 25 trailer loads of leaves, cut all the bushes and hedges. Re-discovered the garden and prepared it for planting.
Up and coming this weekend is inside, painting and preparing toilets and showers, cleaning the shop and laundry out and getting ready to welcome our first guests on the 1st April.
The first glamping is booked out towards the middle of April. That is a huge job to get that up and running, The worst bit of course is washing and ironing all of the bedding so it's fresh for the first guests.
It's such different work from what I do in the UK and there is something satisfying about being physically worn out through hard work, although nowadays it takes much longer to recover. What you need to remember is this year the campsite is being run by the over 60’s club!!! So be kind…
Don’t forget check out how high your crows nests are!!!
See you all soon.
