Busy and blessed

What lovely weather!

The campsite has been busy especially at weekends. Probably in part due to the sunshine and also the many bank holidays in May in France. These have all seemed to fall on a Thursday giving French workers the chance to have a “pont” or long weekend.

I have just returned from a week in the UK to much ironing and bed making as the glamping and accommodation was full the weekend before. I am flying solo this week as Andrew has now gone back to the UK for his break.

We both have our own jobs usually and work seamlessly as a team but when one has gone it becomes more of a rushing round like a headless chicken. He hates my ironing jobs and I hate his cleaning of the public loos on the beach. That was used extensively this weekend as there was a huge sailing competition on the lake.

The centre nautique is going to be open from the 15th June for hiring watercraft of types and sailing lessons too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and treated myself to a manicure on the boat - although you wouldn’t know it now looking at my nails. With plenty of pony riding, barbeques, a night out with friends and even a trip to Ceebeebies land at Alton Towers. I got quite emotional when I met Bluey and the Teletubbies ! Now it's back to work - all holidays forgotten.

There are so many jobs still to be done. The most pressing is the snack shack: repairing all the winter damage, giving it a fresh coat of paint and a huge clean. Hopefully I can complete this in the next week so we will be up and running for the bank holiday weekend.

Sometimes big lists of jobs can become overwhelming when viewed as a whole. It can lead to inaction if not managed carefully. One of my issues is not being realistic on how much can be achieved in a certain time frame usually a day. This often happens amid a myriad distractions that come in many forms. Some I just make up myself. I think it’s called procrastination - things I invent instead of doing jobs I would rather not. It makes life interesting and varied.

Gardening and the floral displays are also in need of preparation. This of course involves visiting garden centres for the annuals, a job I don’t do when Mr H is around as he despairs about the amount of money I spend…… This is job I particularly enjoy - especially the end results.

The local produce is all selling well: jam, juice and soap... Someone has also told me that there is a local tea producer !!! Apparently, it grows round the lake so that needs further investigation. I am always learning something new !

So, as spring is developing into summer, the swallows are sitting on their nest once more, we can revel in nature and the lengthening nights. Despite the list of jobs, I am still amazed at how fortunate we are to be custodians of this splendid place for a while and am lucky enough to share it with you all. We may not be perfect, our toilets are a little vintage but, for a peaceful break from busy lives, it’s just the ticket.
