Height of summer

End of July approaching

It's August on Friday. Can you believe it? How fast has that gone! Whilst the next few weeks are very busy and full, it also signifies the beginning of the end of our manic time. Well, that’s what I keep telling myself. Even though we don’t close until mid-October.

Currently we are full until at least the12th August. That's great for us but not so good for people that arrive on spec. This is why I always advise people to book at this time of year, either via our website or by sending me an email. I think it’s the same for most decent campsites in Brittany. I see on many Facebook forums that people say there is no need to book, I always comment yes there is!! Unless you want to spend your holiday driving round looking for spaces.

We have, so far, had an extraordinary season up to now. Many more people arriving than in previous years. It’s been unusual too, with people having longer stays and the campsite being less transient. The make-up of travellers is also different; in the past we had lots of tents with the odd camping car and caravan. Now people have huge tents, and we have so many vans on site it’s a good job we have large pitches on offer.

I often wonder how people find us nestled in the Mont d’Arrée. It seems that all the fabulous reviews that campers write have a huge impact on this as well as Facebook posts and these blogs! Apparently, I should be doing Tic-Tok, but I am not sure how that works so will take lessons this winter.

The area is becoming more popular - with people discovering our lovely lake and the surrounding area. Even locals from 40 minutes away seem to be finding us for the first time.

When we first came here about 30 years ago there was just a little crêperie and the lake. We could sit there most days in splendid isolation. I remember we used to think is the water poisonous? Why is no one else here? But the children survived!!

It's great for all the local businesses in the area that so many people are choosing to spend their holidays here now. The camping is still lovely and quiet even when we are busy. People are absorbed by the nature. Owls hooting in the night is mostly the loudest noise. Unless the wolf is about of course!! And the moon is full...

The glamping accommodation has been well booked out with only a few available until the end of August - keeping us all on our toes, washing and ironing. It’s great to see people enjoying our tents, cabins and caravans. On that note we have our first reservation for the new caravan Major Tom on the 5th August. Andrew is working hard to get it finished in time. It will be a great place to stay. Watch out for the pictures of the finished article!!

I am looking forward to the grandchildren and their dad’s family arriving en masse on the 9th August. That should be fun! It's great to see another generation enjoying the lake and local beaches. Hopefully they will be able to experience a bit of Breton dancing and music as there are many local festivals at this time of year.

The snack shack remains popular, although I did have a night off for the Euros final. And well worth it the game turned out to be. England women never make it easy but have spirits of steel!! And they retained their title.

My daughters both play football and at the start there were hardly any girls' teams so they had to play in the boys' teams which they were allowed to do until they were 11. Now the women’s game is much celebrated and there are girls' teams everywhere, going from strength to strength. Very satisfying.

Fingers crossed we will have some sunshine for the rest of the summer. I hope that you all enjoy your holidays where ever you may be.
