We've nearly made it!

Full to bursting...

We are hitting the peak for bookings this week and are dead on our feet. We work very long hours, seven days a week.

There is not much time to do fun things but today we did manage a barbeque with some family who are visiting from Derbyshire. Of course, the grandchildren are amongst them camping. It's strange for them to see the campsite so full as they usually come at the beginning and end of the season. They have all enjoyed the lake in the warmth, rather than shivering in March!

There are so many people looking for pitches I could have filled the place 3 times over, daily.

The sun has been shining with very little rain. Such a change from last year. When I spoke to our tourist information rep, she said that many people are looking for last minute breaks.

I have had people crying at my door begging me for a pitch, but, sadly, whilst I do try to accommodate stray walkers and cyclists, when we are full we are full. We have signs on the gates but people think they might drop lucky and that we have put them up by mistake. It must be depressing and stressful trying to find sites with pitches every day of your holiday.

Our lovely campsite is a little shrivelled as it has been so dry and the poor stressed trees are shedding their leaves early again. The grass is turning brown and we are officially in drought so no watering allowed. On my weather forecast there is still no rain on the horizon and we are set for a scorching bank holiday on the15th August to celebrate the assumption of Mary. It’s the last one of the holiday season until All Saints day on the November the first. By which time our gates will be firmly closed.

Bookings calm down after next week and the daily count up of people departing and arriving won’t be so crucial. In a couple of weeks I will be back to camp where you like.

But, before that, I have 50 cyclists arriving on Saturday all wanting snack shack meals. So think of me in 33 degrees, in a converted horse trailer cooking like crazy.

Of course, in September we go back to weekend snack shack service only if there is a demand.

September is usually a lovely month to visit here but I have given up trying to forecast weather as the global climate changes year on year.

So as summer moves onto autumn another season is flying by but it's not over yet !
